Membership is also an issue with the club.

They also are planning on doing something for Hope House each quarter. The club recently donated a magnifier for a computer screen for a college student (about $1700). Also worked with the Meridian School District to complete a Habitat for Humanity house.
Boise Vista – Jerry Lawson, director. They have a Christmas Tree Lot at Hawks Stadium and will be erecting the tent for the Katrina Garage Sale on 9/30. The club also is “the original casino night club in the area”. The club also hosted 2 Finnish exchange students.

About 24 members and looking for more.
Quest- e-mail from Paul Epperson and additional information from DG Deanna Rostock. The program is not approved for the Idaho curriculum; once it is approved the District will be eligible for a $100,000 grant. The Quest committee is working on approval.
Zoo Boise- DG Deanna Rostock. Lions have donated about $20,000 and can get the new Zoo Boise school building named for the Lions for another $30000 in the next 3 years, works out to about $600 per club. Bob Flowers is the Lions Chair.

Leadership Training – PDG Jim Barley. Emerging Lions training slots have been filled for this year and looking for participants for next year. The Senior Lions Institute was just held in Peoria, Illinois. District Training, there is a 4 hour Leadership Training session which can be held on a Saturday and the District pays for lunch. Additionally, PDG Jim has orientation training which can be tailored for one to two hour sessions. There is also on-line material in the Lions Learning center located on the LCI website. Contact PDG Jim to discuss any training needs.
Hope House – DG Deanna Rostock. There is $18,000 remaining in the grant, however she anticipates it will be exhausted soon. Still collecting personal items, or Wal-Mart gift cards. Several clubs are doing project or providing assistance to Hope House, such as Kuna, Vista and Meridian. This is a great place to help youth.
District 39W Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and Garage Sale – PDG Gary D’Orazio. The sale is Saturday October 1st, need merchandise and volunteers, Vista is providing a tent, and he has no success with media coverage. So far the Katrina Fund at Wells Fargo has over $8,000, with more money coming in.
Ret Cam-PDG Glen Peterson. A Ret Cam is on order and should be delivered to St. Lukes Children’s Hospital near the end of November.
Club President Excellence Award – Zone Chair Curt Kelley. Be aware of award, if the President meets the criteria; turn in the application as soon as possible at the end of the year.
District Governor Contest – Lion Ray Hansen. The clubs need to complete the Monthly Activity Report online, there is no longer the additional form to complete and mail in like previous years. The completed reports are e-mailed to Lion Ray and he will compile the results. Rules are the same as last year.
Community Service Award – Zone Chair Curt Kelley. Award should be given to community members who are usually unrecognized for their contributions to community service. PDG Gary D’Orazio volunteered to be the Chair for this year.
Hockey Night- Zone Chair Curt Kelley. “AKA Fun Raising Night” Established November 12, 2005 for Lions Hockey night, we need a minimum of 25 to get the discounted tickets. The Steelheads will announce we are there and we may have an opportunity to provide a person to drop the puck for a ceremonial face off and participate in period intermission on ice promotions (human bowling, score goals for prizes and generally make fool on yourself). Edwin Marshall will try to get a cornea transplant recipient as December is the 100th anniversary of the 1st cornea transplant. Most of the clubs expressed interest in participating and will sign up members. Tickets for groups of 25-50 are $15 for adults and $9 for Juniors/Seniors (62 and older), larger groups pay less; a price sheet was distributed to all attendees.
New Member Orientation - Zone Chair Curt Kelley. PDG Jim Barley is available during October to conduct an orientation. We picked two alternative dates of October 13th and 20th. Each club should let the Zone Chairman know how many Lions will attend so Jim will have adequate copies. The training will be held in the evening at Raedean's. Any member can attend as it will be excellent refresher training for longer term members and fantastic training for new members.
