39W Cabinet MeetingCarlos Café, Mountain HomeNovember 3, 2007Attending: Lions Brad Cottom, Gene Kelly, Ed Hazen, Shirley Hazen, Laura Walls, Pat Campbell, Carlyn Campbell, Heide Eisele, Maridee Lemieux, Joe Shaw, Floyd Miller, Norman Skinner, Anna Pfleger, Louis Pfleger, Carolyn Craig, Kent Craig, Angela Qualman, Gordon Blair, Dolly Blair, Sandy Oswald and Del Oswald. Meeting Opened by District Governor Darrell at 11:15 Am. The Pledge of allegiance was Led By Lion Norm Skinner. The Opening Prayer was given by Lion Joe Shaw. The previous meeting minutes were approved as read. The Financial report was approved as read. Cabinet members and their guest were introduced. DG Darrel gave an accounting of his two-month report to LCI. He had projected a loss of 10 members and we actually lost 12. Noted we still need to come up with one more member to get a new club chartered at Wendell. The planned meeting with Wendell was canceled, will not make the October goal. Lion Floyd Miller said he would join the Wendell club if they cannot find one more member. Lion Joe Shaw reported on planning for the Mid-Winter Convention. He said that local contributions will help hold down the cost of attending. Cost will be $50.00 for registration fee, Lunch and dinner on Saturday. Cost will be $20.00 registration fee if not eating. There will be a no-host breakfast on Saturday with the meeting starting at 9:30 AM. Each club should plan to bring a tail twister item. The next Cabinet meeting will be held On Friday Feb. 8th at the Red Lion Inn, Twin Falls, starting at 4:30 PM. DG Darrell noted that this is our chance to toot our own horn in front of International Directors. Past due membership fees were discussed and tabled for a future meeting PDG Bob is in Eastern Idaho on this day trying to recruit three new clubs. VDG Laura reported on Merl Team progress. They are asking each team member to partner up with another person. They have been collecting ideas on how to get new members. Training will Be provided for new members. DG Darrel said that Lion Jim Barley is willing to do more training. DG contest could be replaced by an awards program for Secretaries that actually turn in reports. At the present time only 20 of 48 clubs are turning in reports. VDG Laura will be doing training at Mid-Winter Convention. Two hours has been set aside for this. Dg Darrell has ask PDG Gary to work on a Boise State Club. We need a club willing to sponsor a new club at Hagerman. We will invite the Barnett’s to help with training. Oakley is another possibility for a Family Club. Filer has a Kawana’s club which impedes the possibility of a new club there. Buhl only has seven members but does a lot They need more members, wives are a possibility. New Plymouth is a no-go. Star is down to 5 members. VDG Laura reported that McCall is foundering, members are negative and meetings are being canceled. McCall could fold. John Dickerson is trying to help. They have money that would go back into the community If the club turns in its charter. VDG Laura reported Idaho City has been having problems with the city. PDG Bob has talked to the city about lions and what they can accomplish. They will be sponsoring a Casino Night on Dec. 7th. Cost will be $20.00 and a canned good. The money will be used for the park project. DG Darrel talked about the Special Olympics test run in 2008. Noted Dr. Z will give an Opening Eyes presentation. Security will be tight for these events; volunteers will need a security clearance. Will need about 5000 volunteers in 08 and 15,000 in 09. Laura will be in charge of both years. Feb. 5th thru the 13th in 09. DG Darrell ask if anyone had got any info on the jobs they are doing or should be doing? Youth Exchange is slow getting info to Chairmen. Noted you can call LCI English dept. with questions. VDG Laura said an early step could be to put together job descriptions and expectations for Chairpersons. Sight First 11: Lion Del said that $6.00 could prevent blindness. They will be having a raffle for a picture. At Mid_Winter. Tickets are $5.00 each or five for $20.00. Chair Reports: Peace Poster/Patriotic: Carolyn said the theme will be “What is a Patriot”? Need to get info to Paw Prints. Still no Posters to DG Darrell. Public Relations: Gene said we should encourage PR throughout our clubs, instead of having just one person do it. He feels each club should have a P.R. person. It is important to membership. Discussed things other clubs are doing such as newsletters. TV Channel 7 is another possibility. Pin Chairman: Gordon reported pins are here 600 @ $3.00 each. Gordon also announced this will be his last year as Pin Chairman.. The pin traders association has pledged $100K to Sight First 11. Constitution/Bylaws: Sandy reported there was nothing to report at this time. Ask that we send VDG candidate’s names to Lion Jim. Membership: Louis asks how many had contacted potential new members, how about follow up? Need new, younger members. Brought in three new members. MERL: Laura agreed that we all need more young members but cautioned that some may be too young. Families 35-55 years old would be good possibilities. Youth Exchange: Heidi & Maridee just got an updated directory. Received an email from Peru looking for homes for two young people, also some info youth camp program in Peru. Contacted Italy coordinator. Offered a suggestion that clubs agree to help to allow hosting families an occasional break. They are in the process of updating High School list in our area. There are three Chairpersons who could do presentations to clubs. The district could maybe establish a camp. Cost to send exchange students to camps would be determined where they would be going. The age would be 15 to 21 years. Dg Darrell said how happy he has been with our Paw Prints co-editors Pat and Carlyn. Paw Prints: Pat and Carlyn said they thought things were going well. They would like to get the info a little sooner in the month. They encouraged Club Presidents to send it out to their members. DG Darrell asks clubs to send him info on deserving Clubs of The Month. Zone 1: No report Zone 2: No report. Zone 3: Del reported they are alive and kicking. He has five clubs and they will be having a zone meeting this coming Thursday. Zone 4: No report. Zone 5: Angie reported on Idaho City. Will visit Kuna on Monday. Meridian just finished the Rodeo, next is antique show in Boise. Riverside just got a concession trailer from McCall, now need to figure out projects for its use. Zone 6: No report. Zone 7: Norm reported he has five clubs and he has visited with all five. He is getting email reports although Kimberly and Valley have not reported. Buhl did their corn booth. Which made them $4000.00. Twin Falls Monarch just donated $1000 to someone?? They also put out 346 flags. Had three officers trained and have done five eye screenings. In October they put out 456 flags, they too are short on help. They were planning a Nov. 1st Charter Party. Twin Falls Lions Have collected 420 pairs of glasses and bought 6 pair. They donated $600. to S & H. Valley bought one pair of glasses and donated $100. to S & H. MSU there 184 hours donated.
Zone 8: No formal report. Zone9: Lion Shirley reported that Fruitland is doing excellent. Payette is a little slow. Syringa donated $300. to meals on wheels. Ontario is very strong. Nyssa is pretty weak. Vale is doing good. And Middleton needs a little help. Leader Dog: Co Chairs Ed & Shirley said they thought Leader Dog School was fantastic!! They said they now have a need for four Leader Dogs, which cost $40k per dog. The $5.00 per club member would help a lot. The International Director is Leader Dog President. Said there is a young lady from Payette that will be using a tracking system. PID Floyd talked about the speakers for both Conventions.
