Zone Chair Reports

Zone 1 – John Dickinson
:  Reports he has heard several complaints about the dues increase.

Zone 2 – Guy Cockerum
:  Reports he, also, has heard complaints regarding the dues increase.  He suggests clubs recruit “Associate Members” to lower club dues & possibly encourage new members to join.

Zone 3 – Pat Rohwer
:  Not at meeting – nothing to report

Zone 4 – Marie Straw
:  Had nothing to report.

Zone 5 – Curt Kelley

Zone 6 – Betty Wartluft
:  I contacted Wood River a few weeks ago to get some information.  I was told Mr. Cochran had just moved.  I left information but my call was not returned.  I will try again.

I talked to Todd White of Jerome Lions and gave him some information about a Safe Kids Fair that is coming up in Jerome.  The Lions were asked to provide a booth at the Safe Kids Fair.  I forward all information I receive from District Governor Deanna to Todd using the e-mail service.

Being a Gooding Lion I know what is happening in that Club.  Each year we do a fair and rodeo tabloid and we sell the tickets at the rodeo in August.  The proceeds from the tabloid is a fund raiser for the club.  This year the Lions went all out to obtain new customers.  We are hoping our efforts will be justly rewarded.  Our club sponsors Boy Scout troop 33.  This year one of the scouts was looking for an eagle project.  a suggestion was made to have a fund raiser for a Titmus machine to donate to the Gooding Lions.  This project is in the works.   The Gooding had a pot luck picnic in the park the last Monday of the month.  The Boy Scout troop 33 and their parents were also invited.  Troop 33 provided the main dish.  The picnic was the setting for the installation of the new officers.  I was honored to perform this task.  A copy of her report is attached to the minutes kept by the Secretary for the archives, and is available upon request.

Zone 7 – Neil Cross
:  Reported he had visited Kimberly, Twin Falls, Twin Falls Monarch, & Valley Lions Clubs & says they are doing well.

Zone 8 – Pat Campbell
:  Noted growth in his Zone is visible.

Zone 9 – Loren Honstead
:  Announced Vallivue Club is putting on a “Pigs n’ Poker party September 24th.  He encouraged all to attend.  He said the Emmett Lions have two new members, and is busy with Boy Scout projects.  He said the Nampa Lions are going strong & were very successful with their Stampede project.  The Caldwell Lions are gearing up for their local fair.  He also noted that the Valley Crisis Center had filed bankruptcy & that the Hope’s Doors Center is also struggling to stay in business.  He suggested donations be collected to support these two organizations to keep their doors open.

Cabinet Member Reports

Leader Dog Chair – Shirley Hazen
:  Reported her fund raising goal for 2005-06 is $15,000.  She is selling marble dog/cat food dishes to help raise those funds.  She also announced she would be visiting every club in the District & would not leave empty handed.

Hope House Chair – Mark Freemyer
:  Announced Hope House is still working on their sewer system.  Hope House will accept any donation, whether money, food, clothing, or time – all is gratefully appreciated.  He asked that anyone wishing to visit Hope House to call & set up an appointment so as not to disrupt ongoing activities.

Pin Chair – Gordon Blair
:  Announced he has 40 2004 pins left; 233 2005 pins, and has 600 2006 pins on hand.  The pins sell for $2.50 each.  Unless otherwise instructed, he will not order more than 600 pins for 2006.  A copy of his report is attached to the minutes kept by the Secretary for the archives, & is available upon request.

Veteran’s Affairs – Jack Benson
:  Reported work on the Officer’s Club at Gowan Field is near completion.  He asked that more recognition of Veterans be made by Lions in parades, etc.

Mission 30 – Darrell Hatfield
:  Prior to giving his report on Mission 30, Lion Darrell reminded the attendees of the upcoming Jackpot Golf Tournament.  He asked that each club donate at least $125 as a Tee sponsor.  He announced that club presidents would receive special pins for the number of new members inducted into their clubs.

Peace Poster/Patriotism Essay Contest – Joan Peterson
:  Noted schools need to be approached early so that the contests can be included in the school’s curriculum for the year.

Leadership Training – PDG Jim Barley
:  Training sessions are being set up in regions.  Zones 1, 2, & 3 are Region 1; Zones 4, 5, & 9 are Region 2; Zones 6, 7 & 8 are Region 3.  If any club or zone wishes to hold training at times not scheduled within their region, please contact PDG Jim for scheduling.

Scrapbook Chair – Nancy Berto
:  Has sent out a letter to all the clubs encouraging them to participate.  The scrapbooks will be judged by non-Lion judges.  A copy of her report is attached to the minutes kept by the Secretary for the archives, and is available upon request.

Mid-Winter Convention – Guy Cockerum & Sharon Reynolds
:  Lion Sharon Reynolds reported that the Mid-Winter convention is being held at the Holiday Inn in Ontario.  The theme is Hawaiian, so clubs are encouraged to come dressed in Hawaiian apparel.  Hotel rooms are available at $61.  The convention is scheduled for February 10-12, 2006.

Junior Miss Program – PCC Bob Storm
:  Announced that rumors may be spread that there is no longer a Jr. Miss Program, but Lions have taken over the event & will attempt to keep it going.

Lion Guy Cockerum mentioned it would be good if Lions Clubs would contact their local Chamber of Commerce & have Lions information available for distribution in their “Welcome Neighbor” packages.
