MD39W CABINET MEETING

Saturday, May 20, 2006

The meeting was called to order at approximately 3:30 p.m. by District Governor Deanna Rostock.  PDG Gary D’Orazio lead in the pledge, and VDGE Darrell Hatfield delivered the invocation.

Introductions were made around the table.

Minutes:  Lion Secretary/Treasurer Laura Walls distributed copies of the minutes from the previous meeting.  VDGE Darrell Hatfield moved the minutes be accepted as printed, Lion Shirley Hazen seconded the motion.  The motion passed.  A copy of the minutes will be kept by the secretary for the archives & is available upon request.

Treasurer’s Report:  Lion Secretary/Treasurer Laura Walls distributed copies of the District Governor’s budget.  She noted DGE Bob Flowers will begin his year with $25.05.  IPDG Gary D’Orazio moved the Treasurer’s report be accepted as presented, Lion Joan Peterson seconded.  The motion passed.  A copy is attached to the minutes that will be kept by the secretary for the archives & is available upon request.

 

DG Deanna presented a power point program that reviewed the various projects the District worked on in this past year.  Those projects were:  Hope House, Zoo Boise, Veterans Day Parade, July 4th Parade, Meridian Dairy Days Parade, Holiday Parade, and our big advertising campaign (bench signs & bumper stickers), which brought in at least 11 new members.  The RetCam which was presented to St. Luke’s, thanks to PDG Glen Peterson & DGE Bob Flowers.  World-wide Induction Day was held in conjunction with the Meridian Rodeo Queen contest thanks to Lions Cheri Price and Curt Kelley.  District training was also a part of our projects for this past year.  The following Lions attended Leadership training:  Lion Angie Qualman, Boise Riverside Lions; and Lion Fred Faulks, Parma Lions attended Emerging Lions in Oak Brook, IL.  Lions Leela Assefi and Nancy Berto, Boise Capital Lions, and Lion Edwin Marshall, Boise Riverside Lions, and Lion Cliff Hanks from the Burley Lions Club, attended Emerging Lions training in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  Lion Laura Walls, Boise Capital, and Lion Ray Hanson, Boise Vista Lions attended Advanced Leadership Training in Colorado.

Mission 30 Training was headed up by VDGE Darrell Hatfield & instruction by Lion Carl Burson from California.  Because of this training, we have three clubs looking at chartering in the very near future.  Never too old for training, 91 year old Lion Valdo Gray, from the Gooding Lions attended the Mission 30 training.

She continued her video presentation by touching upon the steak barbeque for the Parma Lions, and finished off on the three clubs celebrating 75 years of Lionism.

DG Deanna Rostock then went on to present awards to all her Cabinet Members.

After awards were presented, DG Deanna asked if there were any reports.

Lion Angie Qualman talked about the Vision Van that worked in conjunction with our MSU screening 81 children.  Out of the 81 children, 75 got glasses that day.  13 other children were processed through LensCrafters & will be receiving their glasses shortly.  The Vision Van operator was so impressed, they will be visiting Boise again next year.

Lion John Dickinson announced the Weiser Lions club is in dire need of help for their Fiddler’s Festival.  Information is on the web.

Lion Joan Peterson announced that District 39W had participation from 12 clubs in the Patriotism Contest, (35 students participated).  She thanked Lion Dotty Hamon & her committee for their participation in judging the essays.  The following clubs sponsored the children:  1st grade – Marsing, 2nd grade - Vale, 3rd grade – Midvale, 4th grade – Caldwell, 5th & 6th grade, Meridian.  Each winner will receive a certificate and a $50 savings bond donated by Wells Fargo Bank.  Lion Joan promises a special presentation will be set up for these winners.

IPDG Gary D’Orazio reminded the cabinet about the Jackpot X golf tourney.  He also noted the upcoming Citizen Recognition Banquet is scheduled for June 6th.  He encourages all Lions to attend to show support.

Lion Curt Kelley announced his club is sponsoring a Winston Churchill memorial golf tournament on June 22nd.

Lion Nancy Berto announced the Boise Capital Lions 1st annual Scholarship barbeque to raise funds for scholarships for BSU students.

IPDG Gary D’Orazio announced the Star Lions Mule Days breakfast on June 3rd in Star, Idaho.

The floor was turned over to DGE Bob Flowers.  He expressed his appreciation for those cabinet members who have volunteered to remain on the cabinet for another year.  He announced the 39W mid-winter convention will be on Feb 9-10, at the Hampton Inn, in Nampa. 

Lion Laura Walls announced she will be running for Vice District Governor in 2007-08.

The meeting was adjourned.
