MINUTES District 39W Cabinet Meeting Friday, February 9, 2007 Rainbow Room, Nampa Hampton Inn, Nampa The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by 39W District Governor, Bob Flowers. Lion Gary D’Orazio lead in the Pledge and Lion Ray Hanson delivered the invocation. Those in attendance were: Members Guests DG Bob Flowers ID Beverly Roberts VDG Darrell Hatfield CC Deanna Rostock Lion John Dickinson – Zone 1 Chair PID Floyd Miller PCC Jack Benson – Vet Liaison Lion Kirk Bowman PDG Jim Barley – Leadership Chair PDG Gary D’Orazio – Retention Chair Lion Ray Hanson – Zone 5 Chair Lion Loren Honstead – Zone 9 Chair Lion Shirley Hazen – Zone 2 Chair/Leader Dog Chair Lion Angela Qualman – Sight & Hearing Liaison Lion Laura Walls – Cabinet Sec/Treas MINUTES: Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer Laura Walls distributed a copy of the minutes from the previous meeting. PDG Jim Barley moved to accept the Minutes as written, Lion Loren Honstead seconded the motion. The motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT: Lion Laura then distributed copies of the District Governor’s budget. She explained that the amount in the Misc. Donations is a lump sum of all dollars paid, i.e. Charter fees, etc. She indicated she has a break-out of all the funds. She added that $250 is for Emergency Transportation Fund which was originally being collected to help a Vietnamese man travel to Boise for eye surgery. When the minister who had originally asked for the funds was told there was only $250 available & asked if the church could match the funds, he indicated he would get back to us. To date, we have not been contacted. The funds will remain in the Emergency Transportation Fund for future needs. PDG Jim Barley moved that any excess funds from general donations be moved into the Emergency Transportation Fund; CC Deanna Rostock seconded the motion. The motion carried. After discussion, PDG Jim Barley moved to accept the Budget with the recommended adjustments; CC Deanna Rostock seconded the motion. The motion carried. District Governor Bob Flowers introduced Tammy Henry, Exec. Dir. For Canyon County Habitat for Humanity, & Mary Daly, Treasurer for Canyon County Habitat for Humanity. He then turned the floor over to Nampa Lion Kirk Bowman who gave a presentation on Habitat for Humanity. Lion Kirk Bowman indicated an endorsement from the district was needed to go forward with the grant application to LCI. PDG Jim Barley moved the district endorse the Canyon County Habitat for Humanity project, CC Deanna Rostock seconded the motion. The motion carried. CABINET REPORTS: Membership Chair Lion Louie Pfleger gave a report on membership recruitment. He also told the Cabinet members about helping out a young lady in Payette apply for a Leader Dog. He indicated most people just don’t know anything about Lions. He strongly recommended that everyone simply “ask” people if they would be interested in joining. District Governor Contest Chair Lion Ray Hanson gave a report on the progress of the contest. He indicated that any club who has not submitted their monthly reports on a regular basis could write a story on what their club has been doing for the past year & he would judge the club on that submission. Leader Dog Chair Lion Shirley Hazen reported $4,230.31 for the Multiple District, $3,980.31 of that was raised by District 39W. She discussed her meeting with the young lady about Leader Dog. She expressed how excited & emotional the girl was about the prospect of getting a Leader Dog. Leadership Development Chair PDG Jim Barley reported a program has been put together for presentation to the membership after the general session. He indicated the program has been shown to the Boise Capital Lions. He also noted there has been a Zone 2 training & orientation, and officer training at the Idaho City Lions club. An officer’s training class is scheduled for April 14th in Zone 2. He has offered his services to train on any level at any time. CC Deanna Rostock announced there will be a Council Meeting on March 17th and a Sight & Hearing Foundation Meeting at the new Eye Bank building. Also, because the District Governor Elect training was held this weekend in Laramie Wyoming, and our VDG’s & DGE’s could not attend, there will be a District Governor Elect training session that same weekend. The training will take place at the Eye Bank Building (70 Latah St., Boise) on Friday March 16th in the evening; have an all day session on Saturday, then finish up on Sunday. ZONE REPORTS: Zone 5 Chair Lion Ray Hanson reported he had talked with the Boise Sunset Lions about disbanding the club. He stated the Eagle Lions club they have had one new member, and one transfer, they’ve had three sight & hearing screenings, they raised $6000 from their golf tournament in August, they have awarded two $1,000 scholarships, and provide a Santa Clause for the community center in December, have white cane days, & help the senior centers. Boise Bench has two new members, two transfers, made $17,000 from the Jackpot golf tournament. They are re-building seven park benches at the Veteran’s Hospital; had their antique show, have had one Thanksgiving & plan another one in March. Boise Riverside has three new members, five transfers from California & Minnesota. The club is taking pictures of Lions sitting in the 57 T-Bird. They have raised $9000 from casinos, & their Charter Party is scheduled for February 23rd. Meridian Lions have two new members, their rodeo was very successful, and they’re getting Easter baskets ready for needy families. They built a doll house & sold it to raise money for the Wishing Star Foundation. They’re going into their Rodeo Queen contests and are assisting Meridian High School with their robotics program. Kuna is still working on the Mason house. When the house is constructed & ready to sell, they will sell it to raise money to help pay for a young lad’s extensive medical care. They will be setting up the Good Sam’s Club Jamboree concession stands. The club has one new member, & they currently meet at the Peregrine Steak House in Kuna. Meridian Noon Lions have 21 new members. They have 3 new prospects, one transfer from Montana. They are organizing a Jackpot Trip in April. They have a barn dance planned in the future. The club president is currently attending Leadership School in Oregon. Zone 9 Chair Loren Honstead reported he had visited Vallivue & indicated the club president reads Paw Prints cover to cover & reports to the club. They collect money for scholarships. He reported Middleton Lions are still getting their bank accounts set up & post office box set up. They have a committee working on their Charter Party. They’re working on some fundraising activities. They have great growth potential. DG Bob Flowers added that the Council has donated $400 toward their benevolent fund. Lion Loren indicated the Middleton club has decided to meet twice a month, once at noon & once in the morning starting in March. PDG Gary D’Orazio suggested the District join together for a fundraiser to help Middleton Lions raise money to help the Middleton High School re-construction. VDG Darrell Hatfield announced the forming of the Wendell club is progressing. There are six paid members to date. He is convinced the club will happen.
