RIVERSIDE LIONS BEGIN RENOVATION Riverside Lion Jack Benson recently committed the Club to a big job: redecorating about one-third of the Officer’s Club at Gowen Field. Work began last month with the tearing down of the 40-foot bar railing and transporting it to and from the upholsterer. Then came the work of moving out the furniture, steaming off the wallpaper, masking the rooms (3 LARGE ONES), and painting. The paint is dry now, and the rooms look bright and cheerful. A real change from the 60’s look! Now the Club has to pull up the old carpet (about 208 yards) and wait for a carpet installer (Shawna Haggerty of the Boise Bench Club has offered to find an installer) to lay down the new, donated carpet. After that, new furniture will be acquired and the cosmetics of the rooms completed. Lion John Walls of the Capital Lions Club has been working with the Riverside Lions on this project from the start, and the Club is very appreciative of his efforts. More photos and updates to follow in future newsletters. |

GARDEN CITY SENIOR CITIZENS RECEIVE The Riverside Lions proudly presented Garden City Senior Citizen’s Center President Mary Belle Jones with a check for $4,000 from funds the Club raised at their recent “Artistry in Wood” auction. Four woodworking groups in Ada County donated handcrafted auction items, ranging from animal puzzles, to boxes, bowls and pens, to intricate scrolled woodwork of firefighters on 9/11. This was the second year for the auction. Monies from the first auction went to the Boys & Girls Club of Ada County. “Woodworkers are generous people,” says Benson. “We are very fortunate for their support.”
