Midvale Lions Club News

Midvale Lions and community members recently celebrated the completion of a major renovation of the Midvale Veterans Memorial Hall. The project was initially proposed in November 2003 by Midvale Lions and took two years to complete. The building is used for meetings, dinners, reunions, parties and the annual Midvale Lions Health Fair. Problems with the lighting, heating and electrical service after the 2003 Health Fair prompted the Lions to decide to inquire into grants and fund raisers to improve the situation. A committee was formed consisting of both Lions and Veterans, and the project was outlined. Yard sales, Fish Frys, T-shirt sales, a Rifle Raffle and other fund raisers produced some of the money needed for the project. Idaho Community Foundation granted $2500, Idaho Power donated $1000 and Wells Fargo Foundation donated $1000. But the bulk of the funds came in from private individuals who just wanted to help. The total came to just over $50,000. After the dust settled the building had received all new wiring, heating system, lighting, insulation, sheet rock, windows, dropped ceiling, flooring, wheel chair ramp, plumbing, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, ADA accessible bathroom, kitchen cabinets and appliances, storage, and a fresh, clean paint job to cover it all. Lions, Veterans and local citizens donated countless hours to the endeavor. The communities of Midvale and Cambridge now have a building that is warm, safe, and accessible and a symbol of pride to its citizens. Midvale Lions saw the need, said, "It can be done and we can help." And so we did.
