Twin Falls Monarch Lions put up flags on Federal Holidays

On January 1, 1991, the
Monarch Lions Club of Twin Falls took over the flag project from the Exchange
Club. They were putting up 120 flags.
Our
Club is currently putting up 294 flags, divided into (8) routes around the
community, on (8) Federal holidays. This service is paid for by the
merchants of Twin Falls. Members of the Monarchs donate their time to put up the
flags early in the morning and to remove them in the late afternoon on these
holidays.
Our
club has (39) members who's average age is seventy-six (76) years young.
Occasionally we find ourselves shorthanded due to health reasons, vacations, or
family commitments. Thanks to the Twin Falls Lions Club and some retired
Idaho Power Company employees, we can request additional help when needed.
Funds
generated allow us to contribute to several organizations including Leader Dogs,
Sight and Hearing Foundations and glasses for the needy. Most of the funds
are spent on people who are in need of but cannot afford glasses.
Our Eye Sight Chairman is Lion Laviar Thornock. Lion Dale Taute and Lion Vern Robertson collect used glasses, sort them and send them to various locations for recycling. Dr. Walker of Mountain West Optical, Lion Dr. Fitzhugh and others are also involved in this worthy project.
