Updated LCIF list Feb. 2016

Melvin Jones Fellows

In 1917 Melvin Jones, a business owner in Chicago, Illinois, was a member of a luncheon group with other local businessmen.  He thought that the business clubs, only interested in promoting their financial interests, lacked appeal.  "What if these men, who are successful because of their drive,  intelligence, and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?"  Melvin Jones asked.  Inviting delegates of other business organizations to participate, he founded Lions Clubs International.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship recognizes donations of $1,000 or more to the Lions Clubs International Foundation in honor of humanitarian service of an individual.  The District 39W Lions listed below are Melvin Jones Fellows.  Read more about the Fellowship on the LCIF website.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) recognizes donations of US$1,000. It is the backbone of LCIF, providing 75 percent of the foundation's revenue. As recognition of humanitarian work, an MJF is an honor presented to those who donate US$1,000 to LCIF or to people for whom a donation was made by others. - See more at: http://www.lcif.org/EN/ways-to-give/recognition-programs/melvin-jones-fellowship.php#sthash.tDZeNAdY.dpuf
